Advanced Editing (Wiki Text):
There are advanced editing features of the wiki that are a bit more powerful (but more complex).
NOTE- all " symbols should NOT be included in your text. They are here to prevent Social Text from representing them as commands instead of instructions to you.
1. Click Edit
2. You will see two options at the top-- rich text and wiki text, click wiki text.
<the text should now look pretty different>
3. Click "Edit Tips" and review the various advanced commands you can use.
Table of Contents (two methods):
4. Let's try one to create a table of contents.
5. at the very top type "{toc}" (when you insert this dont include the " ")
6. save and notice how this command organizes your titles of different H sizes
OR
(Insert Table of Contents method- simple mode using insert dropdown menu)
-Insert (dropdown menu in toolbar)...Table of Conents
-Table of conents will be added
Insert a Table
1. Go to the page about you created about your hometown
2. Using the simple version (upper middle) insert two pictures by using "upload files" (upper left) of your hometown/ state/ country.
(At this point I recommend saving and then going back into edit) Sometimes the pictures don't show up until after you have saved. Also readjust image size at this point)
a common problem involves resizing pictures after they are in the table. resize first in simple editing then create the table in wiki text
3. Click "wiki text"
4. you should see your two pictures in HTML form. They will look something like this "{image: myhometown.jpg}"
5. to the left of the first "{image: ...etc}" add the "|" symbol...it can be found on most key board above the enter key while holding down shift. (If you cannot find this on your keyboard I recommend copy and pasting it directly from this text) Add this symbol between the two pictures and after the second picture as well.
6. Press enter
7. add | followed by a description of your first picture then | followed by a description of your second then |
8. In wiki text version your text should look something like this
| "{image: myworkplace1.jpg}" | "{image: myworkplace2.jpg}" |
| description 1 | description 2 |
9.save
10. you pictures should be in a table with the descriptions below them
Insert a Tag
1. When you are editing your page you will see the option "Add tags..." in the upper right corner.
2. Add one. A box will appear and you can choose any category to tag your page with. (e.g Homework, CIM, Wiki)
3. Click Save
Make a Comment

Some of the extra advanced features of social text (an attached word document)
advanced_simple.docHi Everyone,
I just made a few changes to the wiki homework instructions. If you already completed the assignment and did the internal link about a company you worked for, do not worry about changing it to a page about your hometown. Email me with any questions!
