Enterprise 2.0 Conference
hideChange of Plans
Since we have limited time and space, we are changing the format:
- Each session is turned into a 5 minute lightening talk
- You can use the projector for your talk, but only if you are ready to project when its your turn
- Following each talk, we will have 5-10 minutes of Q&A/conversation
This is the wiki for the Enterprise 2.0 Conference. A wiki is an editable shared collaborative space. To add your own content, click the "Register" link at the top-right of the page. If you already have a Socialtext account, you can just click "Login".

What is Enterprise2Open?
Enterprise2Open is the "unconference" portion of the Enterprise 2.0 Conference and is open to anyone who would like to attend. This open event blends some pre-scheduled content with an open grid where the attendees fill in the sessions they either want to discuss or present themselves. It is the perfect space to provide the community at large with a place to connect with other attendees and share your knowledge and experiences.
Please propose a session by commenting on this page with a description and a link to your bio, and then tweeting a link to the page with the Hashtag: #2Open**
Prior events: Enterprise2Open Boston 2009, Enterprise2Open 2008
Session Proposals:
Can Your Management Handle the Truth? - Mat Fogarty and Leslie Fine
As is often-discussed in the halls of E2.0, one of the biggest hurdles for adoption is middle management. This is compounded when the technology in question is a prediction market. By their nature, prediction markets remove the notion of ownership from forecasts and may shed light on painful truths in the organization. An enlightened company can use this to take corrective actions, start the right conversations, and remove obstacles to change. Join a discussion exploring prediction markets, adoption techniques, and the quantitative side of E2.0 with the people who brought you the 2.0 Adoption Council Prediction Market.
When Culture eats your Enterprise 2.0 Strategy for breakfast. - Arno Hesse
Sure, Enterprise 2.0 will change a company's culture. But what if the cultural antibodies prevent the project in the first place? How to sell an Enterprise 2.0 project in a large organization? Death by Committee? The right adoption angle for a pilot? Policies, unwritten rules, and power balances - how to discover and address them?
We'll talk about lessons learned from change management in large organizations (banks etc) and other stories from the trenches.
We'll practice two approaches/tools that can be applied in projects back home.
Irresistible Force versus Immovable Object - Chris Yeh
As Enterprise 2.0 startups keep adding to their product suites (social! presence! real-time!), they increasingly encroach on the territory of Microsoft and IBM, which have massive installed bases that they're trying to retrofit with social/collaboration. What are the different approaches that vendors are likely to take (SharePoint integration? Go it alone?) and how can E2.0 adoption advocates hedge their bets? We'll be looking for vendors and customers to talk about how they see this battle royale playing out.
Swiss Army Knives or Surgical Scalpels? - Chris Yeh
Some tools focus on doing one thing (e.g. Yammer). Other tools try to do everything (e.g. SocialText). When does it make more sense to roll your own infrastructure out of best-of-breed tools, and when should you go for the out-of-the-box coverage of an integrated suite? Can we build a simple decision matrix that helps us make the right choice?
From the Horse's Mouth - The Discussion - Dan Keldsen and Carl Frappaolo
The follow-on Unconference discussion from research announced in our keynote on Wednesday into the experiences and stumbling blocks of The 2.0 Adoption Council members. Where have they stumbled, where did they overcome, and what is YOUR experience? How can we surface the best, worst and undetermined practices so we don't all fail in real E2.0?
Email Is Dead. Long Live Email - Andrew Filev
We’re marching into the Enterprise 2.0 era and there’s no place for old communication tools. Right? Then why does email continue to be the collaboration tool of choice for over 80% of organizations globally? We can hate emails, but we have to face the fact that today email is still the most frequently used tool for business people. Should Enterprise 2.0 fight email? Or is there a possibility to leverage its advantages and popularity? What (if any) is going to replace email? IM? Google Wave? Wikis? Join the discussion and tell us what you think. The speaker prepared some interesting data and stories, but everybody's active participation is very welcome.
How to Build a Business Case for Your Social Media Project - john nielson, http://twitter.com/john4frank
Let's be frank: you're going to hit all kinds of resistance to your social media initiative within your organization. So what? The better you prepare your business case, the more successful you'll be in launching your project – faster, with more support and more budget. So let's cut to the chase and talk about – no, start building – your business case today. To guide the discussion, I'll share different tools and exercises from our new frank/inside methodologies and workshops based on working with large orgs and small for the past 5 years. I'm off to print out these docs right now: one-page, biz-case summary; stakeholder tool; audience gap analysis; tech triangle; ROI ladder; a great chart that compares 1.0 vs. 2.0 brand / attitudes. Look forward to the conversation!
