This site began as a collaboration between Chris Anderson (Wired Magazine) and Ross Mayfield (Socialtext). A post giving the background of the project is here. Original data compiled by Wired Magazine. See the About page for more details.

As of October 2007 Easton Ellsworth (We Know Media) and John Cass (PR Communications) working with Ross Mayfield (Socialtext) have instigated a volunteer effort to expand on the existing wiki and combine the wiki with the Fortune 500 Blog Project Wiki, another wiki project that sought to review all the Fortune 500 companies that blog.

Using businessandblogging.com's methodology for reviewing companies, we are able to determine the mean for several factors from a number of reviews conducted by volunteers. We can also determine the overall mean value for Fortune 500 companies. Seventeen of these reviews have been conducted out of the 28 companies reviewed. There does appear to be lower numbers for Interactive elements of blogging and responsive overall. In addition here is a bubble map of all the factors using IBM's Many Eyes visualization tool.
