The Broadband Around The Planet Project.

We are building a “broadband profile” of the planet. What I would like to do is find contributors who are kind enough to write 250 words about the broadband situation in their country. In addition, I would love to get a list of:

1. Key Broadband Players
2. Main Access Technologies, like cable, or DSL
3. The price of bandwidth per megabit
4. Average Speeds available to consumers.
5. Anything else including links to some of the better blog posts about the “broadband situation” in that country.

Thanks
Om Malik opm@mac.com

Sorry for being out of touch - flu and all. back in full gear, making some edits. ... Om

Please add the following tags, if relevant: Wireless Broadband if there is high speed wireless available in the country, and MegaBand, if there are 30 megabits/second or higher speeds available in the country. If the average connection is 256 kbps, lets tag those connections as MidBand.

Uruguay, France, Australia, Malaysia, India and The Netherlands are off to a flying start.

Should we all include USD pricing so that countries can easily be compared? Otherwise you will see 500ZAR, 30euro, $49.95 (aussie) and not know what is what

I think US prices would be better, given that its an easy conversion to other currencies. If folks have problems doing the conversion, thanks to Mac Tiger Conversion Widget, I can do this quickly

Apart from USD Prices, a sort of relative price comparision would be more indicative in the long run. Brad band price in relation to Per Capita Income of people having Internet Access, probably ?

Please feel free to add or modify pages -- even this one -- as you see fit. That's the idea of a Workspace.
