BUPA have implemented a trial of Cogenz's social bookmarking service to help employees tag and search for information on the internet and intranet.
BUPA is a leading global Healthcare provider to 192 countries, with over 40,000 employees.
BUPA call themselves a ‘cerebral’ organisation, so it crucial for them to find a way to ensure information flows throughout the company, and people and information are connected at the right time to maximise effective decision making and corporate communications. Social bookmarking was identified as a way to address this.
They key objectives for social bookmarking at BUPA are as follows:
BUPA have been trialing the Cogenz social bookmarking software for 6 months with 50 users from Head Office, to create a shared library of information resources and harness the collective intelligence of the workforce.
The project is headed up by BUPA’s Lead Information Architect, with the support of a steering committee that meets monthly
Cogenz has been rolled out across several Head Office Divisions: Group Strategy & Development; Group Marketing; Market Research; Group Medical; Health Informatics; BUPA International; Corporate Communications
The trial has been a success so far. Findings show that about 10% of users contribute to Cogenz, with the remainder of users benefiting from browsing the content.
BUPA are now looking at the wider strategy of how Web 2.0 technologies including social bookmarking can be taken into the organization on a wider scale.
In particular, BUPA are interested in looking at how Cogenz could be used to categorise and search information on their corporate intranet, integrated through the API
BUPA recommend the following pointers when rolling out social bookmarking within your organization:
