Here's a tip for intelligence/pr/analyst/researcher work -- use Email-in and Google News Alerts to be alerted when a search turns up in Google News.

  1. Go to http://www.google.com/newsalerts/
  2. Fill out a quick form with the keywords, frequency (daily or as it happens), and workspace email address (e.g. exchange@socialtext.com) as the address
  3. Check the bottom of News Alerts (BETA) Verification Email for the initial email verification link

And the cool thing is the search is included in square brackets within News Alerts (BETA) Verification Email

Update Google is now defaulting to sending e-mails in HTML format, and currently the e-mail-in feature only supports text e-mails (it ignores the HTML markup). In order to make this work correctly, you should set up a Google 'account' and switch the e-mail delivery from HTML to plain text. To do this, go here and set up an account associated with your workspace's e-mail address. A minute or two after you set up the account, check your workspace's "Recent Changes" for an account verification from Google; click the link included on the page, then follow the link to Google Alerts and click the link for "switch to text emails".

The New Alerts arrive as attachments, so my News Alerts page contains a list of links to the atached HTML files.
Is there a way to have the Alerts themselves to be listed in the page?
Thanks, Avi
