Position Descriptions:

1. Room Wrangler. The Room Wranger is a UCLA student who goes to the UCLA Student Organizations Office in Kerckhoff Hall every two or three months and schedules our Sunday meeting times, 12pm to 3:50pm, in Ackerman 2408 or other larger rooms in that area. (We can only schedule two or three months at at time.)

2. Researcher. The Researcher adds to our small but growing list of potential speakers at LAFS Speaker Proposals. If you sign up for a month of this, you should add at least five potential high-quality speakers, including names, a brief bio, potential talk topics, and email or phone or both, and whether or not you know that they would be great speakers.

3. Moderator. The Moderator's job is to look over the existing list of speaker candidates for the month they are moderating, and to add any additional potentials they might have in mind. Then they pick their favorite speaker potentials (and alternate choices if any), and let the others in the LAFS Moderators Yahoo Group know these choices and give them two days to object, suggest alternates, provide any other feedback. They then give their final list to the recruiter. During the event they also introduce their speakers and moderate their Q&A.

4. Recruiter. The Recruiter takes the Speaker List made by the Moderator and tries to get the Speakers to come to our Salon. They can use the sample recruitment letters provided at our Future Salon Network website, or improvise their own. In the process they may add more names to the LAFS Speaker Proposals list. If they can't get the speakers desired, they go back to the Moderator for a new list.

5. Event Promoter. The Event Promoter takes the speakers who have been confirmed and writes up enticing event copy that includes the speakers presentation title, abstract, and bio. They ask for this information first from the Moderator and Recruiter, but if neither has it then they ask the speaker for it themselves. They list this at the LAFS Website, and at the LAFS Yahoo Group, they make a one-page Color Flyer out of it, and they send this information out at least twice to the LAFS Yahoo Group, the first time two weeks before the event, and the second two days before the event.

6. UCLA Promoter. The UCLA Promoter is a UCLA student who takes the flyer made by the Event Promoter and they get it up in dorms, on bulletin boards, on our sandwich boards (to come) and wherever else around campus that is appropriate.

7. LA Promoter. The LA Promoter gets the word out about the event to the local community. Their prime responsibility is to list the event during their month at Eventful and Meetup, but they may also notify our affiliate groups (Enigma, etc.), send it to the LA Weekly events listings, or distribute flyers or LA Future Salon cards at local events.

8. Recorder. The Recorder's job is to take the digital audio recordings of the event (which they don't have to make, as we already have that set up) do simple editing to them, and post them at our LAFS Website. They also take any digital snapshots or short video that has been recorded and make sure it gets up on Flickr. These audio and video links are then posted to the Yahoo Group.

9. Blogger. The Blogger's job is to take notes and links emerging from the salon conversation and make them available online, either in a weblog, a Del.icio.us feed, or some other online source. These links are then posted to the Yahoo Group.

Questions? Stuck on what to do? Call or email Head Moderator John Smart (johnsmart@accelerating.org) or anyone else in the LAFS Moderators Yahoo Group.
