^^^*Setting Your Yahoo Group Preferences*

There are two basic ways to participate in a Future Salon Yahoo Group email list:

1. You can use it for active discussions and event sharing in your salon community.
2. You can use it ONLY to receive monthly Salon meeting and moderator-approved special events notices.

Here's how to make that choice (or change it later):

After you have joined the Yahoo Group, click the small "Edit Membership" at the top of your Yahoo Groups Salon page, then set "Message Delivery" for either:

1. "Individual Emails" (for active discussion emails) or
2. "Special Notices" (for salon meetings and special event emails only)

Monthly email reminders will always be sent as Special Notices by the moderator, and occasional moderator-approved event notices will be sent this way as well. The rest of the discussion and other events traffic will be sent as Individual Emails.

^^^*Email Management Tip: Create a Subfolder for Future Salon Discussions in your Inbox*

If you want to participate in Future Salon discussions but you don't want a lot of discussion emails cluttering your inbox, you have two options:

1. You can set your preferences to "Special Notices", and go periodically to the Yahoo Group and use their interface to participate. This works, but it isn't very convenient.

2. A better option for many is to set your preferences to "Individual Emails," and then create a rule in your email system (Outlook, Eudora, etc.) that routes your Future Salon discussion email out of your inbox and into a "Future Salon Discussion" subfolder.

In Outlook, you would do this by first creating your Future Salon Discussion subfolder (right click on "Inbox" then choose "New Folder"), then by right clicking on a piece of discussion email that comes into your Inbox, then choosing "Create Rule", and following the instructions to move it to your subfolder.

With luck, from that point forward all Special Notices email will still come to your inbox, and discussion email will go to your subfolder. You can then periodically check your subfolder, which shows a blue number for unread messages, and more easily participate in the Future Salon discussions in your community.

Unfortunately, rules don't always work, and sometimes they need to be reset to make them "stick". But if you have the patience to set this up, you may find it is the most convenient way to manage your email.

Thanks for adding your ideas and energy to the discussion!
