Socialtext People is a people directory extended with robust social networking features. You can find contact information for your colleagues, discover people with expertise and common interests, and find valuable information through your social connections. Socialtext People is an optional component of the Socialtext Social Software platform. If optional module Socialtext People is not enabled, the People menu will not link to Socialtext People.
People
People in your Navigation Menu is your access point to Socialtext People. Place your cursor over People and a drop-down menu appears, showing you:
- a link to the People Directory - All People
- a list of people who you have chosen to follow .
If you click People in the Navigation Menu the All People page is displayed.
People Directory - All People
If you click on People Directory in the People drop-down menu (above), the All People page will be displayed.
Here you can see all of the people who are members in the same accounts as you are.
The list is sorted alphabetically by first name or user name if no first name is provided. The names and photos in the list are links to each person's Profile page.

By default, you see All People. By clicking the arrow to the right of the drop-down box, you can select to view only people who belong to a specific account.

Only accounts to which you belong are displayed in this box.
Each page of the directory lists twenty people. Use the paging links above the directory to jump to the previous or next page, first or last pages, or any of the page numbers displayed. The item in bold indicates which page is currently active.

You can also view this list with either the Names view or the Summaries view. You toggle this view by clicking the item displayed in linked text. The item in bold indicates which view is currently active.

Names View

By default, this page uses the Names view. With this view, only the avatars and names of the people in the account are shown. By clicking on the name, you can visit this person's Profile. If the page is currently displaying the Summaries view, click Names in the "Show: Names | Summaries" bar.

By clicking Summaries in the "Show: Names | Summaries" bar, you see information from people's profile, such as phone numbers and their position within the company.
Searching for People
You can search for people. The search will check names, user names, and e-mail addresses.

To search for people:
- Click People in the Navigation Menu.
- Enter the search item (name, part of a name, etc.) in the Search People search box.
- Click the
or hit 'Enter'
By default, you will see all people who match the search term, in any of your accounts (The list is blank if there are no matches.) The search item appears in the title area of the page. This list, by default, displays the Summaries View. You can return to Names View by clicking Names under the page title.

By selecting a different account from the Account drop-down box you can refine the search list to show only the people with the search term who belong to that account.
To cancel the search, click People in the navigation menu.
Socialtext People Profiles
A Socialtext People Profile gives you a rich and dynamic portrait of your colleagues.
A profile page shows:
- information about the person (such as contact information, and their role in the organization)
- "tags" that describe the person's interest and expertise (these tags can be added by the person being profiled, and by other people)
- the person's recent activities (pages they have updated, tags they have added, and more)
- workspaces this person and you have in common.
Visit Profile to learn the information that can be displayed within a profile and how to edit your own profile.
Following People
Socialtext People allows you to see updates from your colleagues. You might choose to follow a colleague that you work with closely, your manager, or someone across the organization whose expertise you respect. When you Follow a person, you will see updates of that person's activities in the My Colleagues widget on your dashboard.
Follow a person
To Follow a person:
- Click People in the Navigation Menu .
- Select a person within the All People page. This opens the person's Profile.
- Near the top of the profile you will see a Follow this person button. Click this to add the person to your Follow list.
- This person's updates will now appear in the My Colleagues tab of your Recent Conversations widget on your Dashboard
Stop following a person
To remove a person from your Follow list:
