Socialtext supports the widget standard used in the iGoogle personal page. This means that you can use a wealth of widgets that are available on the internet. Socialtext has built in access to a number of handy widgets. And you will soon be able to add your favorite widgets, or even make your own.

The ADD CONTENT button allows you to add useful widgets to your homepage. Shown below are the widgets created outside Socialtext.

BeTwittered

If you have an account with Twitter, you can apply this widget to get your twitter messages right on your homepage. If you log out of Socialtext without logging out from Twitter via the widget it will remain ready for you the next time you log in and visit "Home". Likewise, if you delete the widget from your dashboard without logging out Twitter, the next time you add the widget to your dashboard it will be ready to go.

Flickr Photos - English

Display images from any Flickr account. When first installed, the widget contains some default photos for an example. Configure to see your flickr page. Only public photos can be displayed on this widget.

LabPixies Calculator

Calculations have never been so groovy! Although 'menu' and 'change skin' seem greyed out, mouse over or click the items to activate. 'All utility gagdets' opens a new window to LabPixies.

Last.fm Neighbors

Every dashboard needs a radio - and this widget gives it to you. Provide the screenname of the Last.fm account to which you wish to listen and click Save.

MapQuest

Use the MapQuest widget to instantly get maps and routes in one convenient module. Type in your MapQeust search in the textbar at the top. MapQuest returns a list of places containing your search text. Choose an item by clicking on the place name. Currently this widget only provides information on American places.

Microsoft Outlook

If you have Internet Explorer 7, Office XP or later, and Outlook, you can use this widget as a portal into your Outlook application.

Configure View	Loaded View

Click Configure if you wish to change the default tool (i.e. which tool you wish displayed when the widget is loaded) from Inbox to another tool. The Outlook tools you may choose are:

• Inbox - your e-mail
• Calendar - your daily events and notes
• Tasks - your to-do list
• Contacts - your address book

Click the save button to load your selected tool.

Once loaded, links are provided near the top of the widget to navigate to other tools. No need to enter Configure each time you wish to see a different tool.

Included with the tool links is New. Clicking this will allow you to create a new item depending on which tool you have open. For example, if you are in Inbox New will allow you to create a new e-mail; if you are in Tasks New will create a new task, etc.

SlideShare Feeds

This widget provides easy access to SlideShare feeds.

Default View (as per 'Featured Slides')	Configure View	Feed drop-down box

By default, 'Featured Slides' is the selected SlideShare feed.

To change the feed:

• Click .
• Use the Feed drop-down box to choose the feed you wish.
• If you wish the widget to access your account, provide your user name in User. This may remain blank.
• Click Save.

The Configure view closes and the feed you have chosen is displayed.

When you click on any of the displayed presentations a new browser window pops up showing the SlideShare page containing the chosen presentation.

This widget gives access to the world of Wikipedia. Type your item(s) into search and it will pop up a new browser window containing the Wikipedia entry. Configure to change the language of the search.

Youtube Video Feeds

You can have easy access to Youtube videos of your choice with this widget.

Type or copy and paste the URL of a video you wish to play in the viewer in the Default video link box. If you have a playlist to which you would like access, type or copy and paste this into the Add a playlist link box. If you want this playlist displayed, ensure to check the Playlist Mode check box.

Once loaded, the viewer functions like the original Youtube viewer. Click the screen or the 'play' button to start the video. To stop the video, click the 'pause' button in the lower left-hand corner (which replaces 'play' when playing).
