The old "workspace dashboard" feature was part personal, part group, and not customizable. We have replaced this with two separate features. Each user has a truly personal dashboard that they can personalize for their own workstyle, and each "workspace" has its own "Central Page" that can be used to communicate shared information for the team.
Let's walk through the old workspace dashboard features and see what the equivalent new features are.
I was using "Announcements and Links" on the workspace dashboard to communicate important things to my team.
- You should replace the content of the "Central Page" if that page is unused and has the default content, or open Announcements and Links and copy its contents into the Central Page if it is already in use. To replace the Central page content wih Announcements and Links content:
- To access the Central Page, click on the workspace title in the new Workspace Navigation (upper left). Note the title of the Central Page.
- Find your Announcements and Links page. Next, using the Tools menu, choose Rename Page. Type your Central Page title in the "New Page Name" text box. Leave the checkboxes checked. Click Rename. Confirm that you are renaming to the existing page. The Announcements and Links page will be renamed to your Central Page. You probably want to go back and delete the old Announcements and Links page to avoid confusion.
What about "Your Notebook?"
A OnePageWidget displays one wiki page on your Personal Dashboard. You may put as many OnePageWidgets on your Dasboard as you like, one for each Your Notepad in each of your wikis.
You can use the OnePageWiki widget to put Your Notepad on your new Personal Dashboard. Here's how:
- Use Settings => Your Notepad to find the title of your notepad page.
- Use the Add Content button on your Personal Dashboard (click Home to go there) to put a new OnePageWidget on your Dashboard.
Click the wrench icon to configure the OnePageWidget.
- In Workspace, type the workspace name. This is the name the system uses to identify the workspace, not the title of the Central Page. To determine the workspace name, click Workspaces in the Navigation Menu for a list of your workspaces by name and title.
- In Page, type the name of your notepad page.
- Click the Save button.
New: Home, People, and Workspaces

- The "Home" link in the top gray bar takes you to your Personal Dashboard.
- If you have the optional "Socialtext People" enabled, a People link takes users to your installation People directory.
- The "Workspaces" link in the top gray bar gives is a pulldown menu of all your workspaces.
What's New, Your Watchlist, New Page
The light grey workspace navigation bar has links to your Workspace Central Page, Whats New, Watchlist, Weblogs, and Invite Others (for wiki administrators). + New Page appears on every page to create new pages.
Not new to Socialtext 3, you may add a What's New and/or Recently Viewed panel to your Sidebar.
- Choose Settings => What's New
- Check the "Display as a side box in page view?" box and select the number of entries you want.
- Click Save
- This is a per-workspace setting and will have to be repeated for each of your workspaces if desired.
- Choose Settings => Page Layout
- Check the " Include Recently Viewed items as a side box when viewing pages?"
- Save
- This is a per-workspace setting and will have to be repeated for each of your workspaces if desired.
The workspaces breadcrumbs feature showing your most recently visited workspaces is gone. The New Workspace button is a link, Create New Workspace, in the Administrator's Settings interface.
More changes you may notice
- Editing: Simple mode is now Rich Text mode and Advance mode is now Wiki Text mode. The button presented after Preview says Edit, not Edit More. The styling of the pages is completely different.
- Page attachments: attachments may be deleted and extracted directly on the page. No more "Manage Files" button or sorting of attachments. Use the All Files list view for sorting attached files.
