Guide To This Site's Contents
Welcome to Participatory Media Literacy (Home) Participatory Media Education Resources Audio programs that are recorded and distributed digitally are known as podcasts, because they allow you to subscribe online and automatically download each episode to your computer or portable MP3 player (named for the popular iPod from Apple). Podcasts are just ordinary mp3 files, like most digital music files, which are compressed so they don't take up a ton of space on your harddrive. You don't have to own an mp3 player to listen to podcasts -- you can listen to them on your computer, by downloading them or by streaming the content directly from the podcast's website. Podcasts are also easy to create, and span the range from profesionally-recorded radio shows to homegrown audio blogs, music showcases, and social or political commentary. They can also be used for recording academic lectures and distributing them to students. |
