1) Clients may implement a "prefix" in order to set the domain of a key. For instance you can take the customer name and use it to create a specific domain for their keys in a shared hosting environment. The "prefix" should be applied to the key when storing the value, but should not be used when calculating hash.

2) While Memcached itself implements not method for serializing structures, JSON is the most widely deployed object neutral serialization type.
