Last year in Chicago at MeshForum, we talked about how the networks of society can break in Disaster situations.

For 2006 we’ll discuss how new Net businesses are breaking the existing networks of business relationships.

Podshow is helping to break the model of the way producers and consumers of content interact. In the past, interaction was minimal. In the case of podcasting, it is quite direct. Recently, listeners to Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code podcast created while he was on vacation. These listeners literally programmed their own content. The Podshow Podsafe Music Network is doing A&R in a whole new way, getting
bands and labels to literally give music away to be promoted (no payola, no romancing Clear Channel to get songs on air). Soon, it is reported, they hope to literally have listeners register for promotions and benefits while making their podcast listening habits and demographic information more transparent to advertisers who will, presumably pay more for such an audience.

Jamais Cascio and I will talk about Map Mashups, and how mashups and other Web 2.0 technologies are 'breaking network models' of how software is made, delivered, developed and paid for.
