Michael Maranda is President of the Board for the Association For Community Networking.
Michael is active in the Community Information and Communications Technology sector in Illinois, serving as co-chair of the Illinois Community Technology Consortium, leading an effort to establish a community technology policy/advocacy and professional development network in Illinois, and a campaign to Get Illinois Online. Michael currently heads the first regional chapter of the Community Technology Centers Network: CTCNet Chicago.
Michael is a founding board member of several organizations: NPOTechs, ChiFi & CAAELII, and serves as an advisor to the Community Informatics Intiative at UIUC-GSLIS and to the CTC Vista Project.
NPOTechs.org is a grassroots non-profit technology assistance provider focussed on open source solutions for community based organizations, capacity building, advocacy and community education.
ChiFi, a community wireless initiative in Chicago.
CAAELII, the Coalition for African Asian European and Latino Immigrants of Illinois offers a unified voice for immigrant CBOs and develops community leadership from the grassroots.
Michael spends his spare time taking long walks off of short piers.
