This is my eleventh year on the BC faculty. I love teaching at Boston College.
Having students who are enthusiastic and that have a positive attitude
makes a huge difference, so I hope that you have a great experience in
class. I'll try my best! As for background: there's the usual stuff - a
stiff professional profileon my main website. I'm a BC grad myself - a 'double Eagle', with a BA
in Comp. Sci, A&S '88, and MBA in Int'l Business, CGSOM '90. My
wife (referred to occasionally in class by her acronym TFMG for The
Fabulous Mrs. Gallaugher) is a BC grad, too. We met when we were
students together. Kim works as a Speech Pathologist in Early
Intervention - helping very young children with developmental delays.
She's taking time off now to spend time with our daughter. We have two incredible children.
Ian is eight years old and has been teaching his old man all about his
favorite sport, NASCAR (of course, the boy who's dad can't drive just
loves cars). He's a lot of fun and a super-smart kid. After finishing
kindergarten he created his first websiteall by himself. He even got some press about it in the Boston Metro
newspaper. Press coverage for his geekiness before first grade -
that'll be on his BC application.

Maya is three and quite a formidable force. She's got just two speeds:
exuberant or raging. When she's happy she's an utter delight. When
she's angry, look out - shades of "Pearl" from the Will Farrell
"Landlord" video, minus (for now) the cussing. Maya is also brilliant.
Her first "sight" reading word is "Google". Her geeky dad couldn't be
more proud! Both of our kids had rather notorious websites posted to
announce their respective births. Ian's can be found here, Maya's here.

I
don't do much outside of BC and time with my family. I teach the
equivalent of 7 sections a year, which is about 75% more than the
average load. That's because I voluntarily overload my schedule to run
the TechTrek courses and the IME Asia experience for MBAs. That keeps
me away from my family for nearly 6 weeks in the first five months of
the year, plus the additional class time, but hey, you're worth it :) I
came from industry and also think it adds a lot of value to my teaching
if I can regularly meet with executives and bring what I learn from
them back into the classroom. If I do have free time, I like to take
Ian sailing at
Community Boating, although I'm a horrible sailor, so watch out if you see me piloting a boat.

I look forward to having you in class. Please stay in touch after the course is over. LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, plus the Week in Geek, are all great ways to stay in touch.

Good luck!
