Research Associate

Alexza Pharmaceuticals is a specialty pharmaceutical company located in
Mountain View, California. We are developing breakthrough therapies for
the treatment of acute and intermittent medical conditions. Alexza was
founded by Dr. Alejandro Zaffaroni who is one of the most successful
entrepreneurs in the biomedical industry with a long list of successful
start-ups to his credit, including ALZA, Affymax and Affymetrix
Corporations.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research
Associate reporting to the Associate Director, Product R&D. This
person will work closely with our multi-disciplinary team of scientists
and engineers who are dedicated to the development of novel drug
delivery technologies with the potential to revolutionize the treatment
of several common diseases.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct research on various drug/device interactions as part of the drug delivery and device development process
• Assist with development and testing of non-clinical drug delivery device
• Analyze and interpret data from various device design and delivery experiments
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers across the company's strong interdisciplinary team
• Exercise technical discretion in the design, execution and
interpretation of experiments that contribute to project objectives
• Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses
• Document methods, protocols, and procedures

Skills Required:
• Ability to work in a fast-paced start-up environment on multiple projects within milestone-driven timelines
• Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to collaborate
well with both internal and external research and development staff
• High level of initiative, desire to contribute to company’s growth and advancement
• High attention to detail
• Ability to stay consistent in redundant testing
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Detailed notebook taking and other documentation skills

Education and Experience:
• MS or BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or Similar, with 0 to 2 years of industrial/academic research experience.
• Previous experience in a drug delivery company a plus.
