Hi! I thoroughly enjoyed last year's online community camp, and I am eager for the online community unconference to reconnect with you all and learn about your new projects.

Here is a little about what I am working on:

I have been with TechSoup.org since its launch, in 2000. I manage the TechSoup community forums and occasionally work with the editorial team on our newsletter.

Most recently, I launched a community of nonprofit organizations in Second Life. This community has a shared community blog: http://secondlife.techsoup.org, a wiki and a shared community tagging project using the tag NPSL on various sites.

We have weekly in-world open meetings, every Friday from 8:30-9:30am PST at the Nonprofit Commons ampitheatre. I recently launched a nonprofit sim Second Life called The Nonprofit Commons, with my community that has evolved in the last year, on land donated by Anshe Chung Studios. This nonprofits-only community houses 40 organizations, as a pilot project, totally free of charge, in order to lower the barrier of access to the virtual world.

I also participate in many online communities, outside of the TechSoup forums. I run monthly online community meet-ups in San Francisco, that are open to the interested public. In fact, you can join our group and attend the next meetup (happening May 23rd at 7pm in SF.) I speak at conferneces (in June, I will be running a panel on Nonprofits in Second Life at Games for Change) and I write on the topic of online community building in its various forms. I have a background in library work and my graduate work was in literature. Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Susan has lived in San Francisco since 1989.
