Our goals are:
1. to create a vast, easily accessible commons of citizens media

• Storage/bandwidth/archiving: Our open media repository offers people free storage, bandwidth and archiving of their personal media works. (All three elements, but especially free long-term preservation, is a competitive advantage.)
• Interconnectedness: We are promulgating open media protocols to bring personal media to the desktop and an open media registry to facilitate sharing of grassroots media and metadata among repositories with similar goals. Multimedia jukeboxes, image albums and directory interfaces would be built on top of the resulting celestial jukebox of freely shareable rich media. (Ourmedia -- or a new Citizens Media Center -- would serve as a sort of network glue.)
• Remix culture: We are creating a rich archive of freely accessible audio, video and photos, allowing people to access and build upon both public domain and Creative Commons materials. (Only a nonprofit like Ourmedia can fill this role -- another competitive advantage.)

2. to help individuals, educators and businesses learn how to create citizens media

• Tools: We'll give people access to the right software and hardware to create, capture, remix and collaborate on citizens media.
• Learning Center: The Ourmedia community (designated experts, educators, etc.) will create tutorials, guides and workshops to help people create videoblogs, podcasts, digital stories and more.
• Corporate training: Select teams will spearhead training workshops for corporations that want to teach their staffs how to create podcasts, video stories and more.
• Ourmedia in the Classroom: Educators can customize Ourmedia's look and feel to incorporate citizens media at the college, high school and grade school levels.

3. to help long-tail artists achieve visibility through a citizens media network

• Life after television: Citizens media efforts such as Ourmedia will play a big role in reinventing television and radio as dominant forces in our culture -- a new paradigm for media that emphasizes inclusiveness, decentralization, openness, participation, and a democratic ethos.
• Discovery: How will users find the best multimedia works online and elevate select artists? Ourmedia will support rich metadata, enhanced multimedia search, tagging, ratings, advanced taxonomies, recommendation technologies, personalized content, etc.
• Infrastructure: Our platform allows other sites to pull some materials freely from our media database.
• Licensing deals: Ourmedia will give our members visibility by placing their works on other networks, platforms and delivery systems.
