United States
Broadband service in the US is on a company by company basis. In most states the local cable television provider is the sole broadband provider. Local telephone companies are starting to install fiber optic cables to be able to compete with the cable companies. There are also a number of smaller wireless providers that cover small towns that do not have good cable television or are too remote for fiber installation. There are also a number of cities that are installing wireless connections as a government service.
^^General stats
- 61.3% of US home connections are broadband
- It's roughly a 60-40% pie between cable and DSL, with cable slowly losing share
