RH100 TAKE Offering an inexpensive, scalable and reliable
alternative to the ubiquitous Microsoft Outlook,
Scalix provides a Linux-based e-mail and calendaring
platform. It can work for organizations with a few
hundred or hundreds of thousands of users. Scalix
claims it can offer messaging system deployment in
enterprise environments supporting over 100,000
users with reduced risks and ubiquitous reporting.
Even more impressive, it boasts savings of more than
half for e-mail deployment, migration, and operating
costs compared to competitors. The company’s technology
is based on the OpenMail technology licensed
from HP. Scalix garnered an additional $6 million in
venture capital funding in April, which it will use to
expand geographically. Making it easy for enterprises
to do without Microsoft for messaging could prove a
good business for Scalix.
