Science Fair Info
hideWith your help and contributions students, teachers and parents can discover what others are doing or have done with regard to their science fair projects. Share your ideas and knowledge so others can benefit from your experience and know-how.
The Science Fair Wiki (SFW) will become a central clearinghouse for science fair info -- one which will help guide those new to science fairs to create more innovative projects, and encourage students to be more creative and thorough. Please contribute and come back often to see how others have collaborated.
^^^How the Science Fair Wiki WorksThe SFW is a central resource for science fair information that is created and managed by its participants. Its purpose is to help students, teachers and parents find good ideas, produce good projects and collaborate with others to share information. The SFW is expected to grow in size over the years as site participants add materials, so that it becomes a permanent resource to help teachers teach and students learn.
Help build and manage the Science Fair Wiki
Wikis are open websites that are constantly edited and updated by site participants. A good example of a wiki is the Wikipedia which became the world’s largest encyclopedia based on user-supplied content.
The SFW needs students and teachers who will take leading roles in supervising the content on the SFW. While content is user generated, there is a need for people to take a leading role in making improvements to the site and monitoring changes to the site.
Structure of the Science Fair Wiki
The Science Fair Wiki is currently divided into twelve sections by school grade level. Each section begins with a list of categories for that grade level, for instance, biology, chemistry, ecology, and so forth. Site participants can add new categories.
Each category, in each grade section, starts with an introductory section that is edited and updated by the site participants. The introductory section gives thoughts about the category for a certain grade level, for instance, the introduction to the biology category for the 7th grade would have an overview of biology projects for this grade level.
After each introductory section is a list of projects for a given grade lvel that are submitted and described by the students and teachers who are doing or have completed these projects. The most recently submitted project is first in the order. There is a comment section for each project so that other site participants can add their thoughts and observations about each project.
Many projects are listed while they are being completed, to solicit the advice of others. Students and teachers are encouraged to keep their project listings updated and to list successful, completed projects so that their projects will get publicity and serve as examples for other students in the future.
