Martin Cleaver

Martin Cleaver is Head Blender of Blended Perspectives Inc, an Enterprise 2.0 consultancy based in Toronto, Canada. Before founding Blended Perspectives, Martin worked as lead wiki consultant for a knowledge management firm Helix Commerce. Prior to his MBA, Martin worked for Arthur Andersen where he held the position of manager in their Enterprise Application Integration practice in London, UK, validating bank TIBCO architecture at both a local and global level. And, prior to working at Andersen, he trained as a software programmer and designer at Reuters UK and Hong Kong offices.

Martin completed his B.Sc and M.Sc. in Computing Software and Systems Design in 1995 (specialising in distributed systems) and obtained an MBA in 2004 in which he specialized in Innovation, Knowledge Management and Organizational Behavior.

Martin has established several large intranet ‘wiki’ sites: at Andersen in 2001, its success enhanced the Middleware team’s knowledge capture and reuse and was formally adopted into Andersen infrastructure; in Redbourn, UK, it has become the central portal encompassing the town council, local businesses and social activities; and at his MBA school it unified clubs, student council and society content.

yeah.. but Martin... I don't think this effort is a place to post a personal resume

Hi Daaberg. On all the corporate wikis I have run and participated on, creating profile pages about each member of the community has proven itself a useful context for directing future conversations. Martin

My question is how are you inserting "contributed by"? How does that work
I agree completely with Martin. A wiki is a community more than it is a technology. By creating profile pages about each member of the community, building can occur more easily. There is a real person behind those edits. Best, MarkDilley

although this is the first wiki I have participated in, it seems to me that THE PURPOSE stated, is writing chapter 11... not necessarily "getting to know one another".... or forming some kind of virtual buddy community

I myself am much more interested in ideas/concepts/creations, than getting to know the source of those ideas/concepts/creations, personally

indeed I have been having the experience recently of finding that great, creative concepts sometimes come through people who at the personality level are not actually interesting to me or me to them ... & maybe we are not even compatable at that level....do not even agree at that level... yet the ideas themselves live

not to mention that part of the fascination with this virtual reality world is that large numbers of people are trying-out alternative personalities.... living-out essentially fictional personas that take on a life of their own... this is hardly limited to fantasy stories/games... 2nd Life etc. so.... therefore.... will the Martin or Mark who appears on this wiki be the "real" Martin or Mark?... and does it actually matter?

I say: let writing and ideas stand on their own wordy legs

Daaberg, I agree that ideas are the most important part of this wiki project, or any wiki project and I do think it matters, personally having participated in a great many wiki, that although a wiki is a piece of software, it does best having a community around it. That does not mean that everyone must be a part of that community, quite the opposite, but it does provide for a good strong base. Additionally, real names are a wiki value that I hold dear, so you can count on it being the "real" Mark, based on my work in all the wiki that I work in. Best, MarkDilley

I believe that one of the essential elements of Wikinomics is community. Voluntarily placing your profile in a separate area for people to read enhances the community experience for those who wish to participate on that level.
thanks for share this valuable information to all your readers

I'd tend to agree that personal profiles are useful, but we don't want to skirt the lines of self promotion. Right now it seems that almost as much effort is going into personal profile creation as it is the wiki we're here to create. I'd suggest that we try to trim out marketing language from these profiles, keep them very brief and fact-based, then dive into content creation elsewhere. Thoughts?

I think as long as self-promotion is contained on their personal pages sharing background is a positive and healthy thing for a community to do.

Daaberg, I agree with you and MarkDilley, that ideas (and concepts and goods and services based on this stuff) are the most important elements of Wiki Culture and WikiNomics. But you won't find intelligent and creative authors, if you deprive them of their AuthorCredit as embodied in their WikiHomepage. I know MarkDilley from the first historical wiki (i.e. WardsWiki) and as an excellent contributor to Wiki Culture (WikiIndex, AboutusOrg). He is right, suppressing WikiHomepages is not compatible with Wiki, it looks as in this case Wiki is abused as an idea/concept/content- harvesting tool, that deters authors, in whose ideas we all are interested. And we all are interested, that this WikiNomics wiki is prospering, aren't we. -- FridemarPache (AuthorCreditEssentialForWikiNomics)

That was fantastic article buddy, thanks for sharing with us!
