Basics and Logistics
- Capacity for WoolfCamp participation - 30 to 40 campers. 40 will be a squeeze, but a friendly squish. There's floor space everywhere, up and down stairs, into the hallways, out to the decks, etc.
- Capacity for sleeping - 10-12 in the house, two 2-person tents will be set up outside, lots of tent spots available if you have your own tent, RV/van space in the driveway and at the top of our hill adjacent to the road.
- (Added 3/30/09) Suggestions for what to bring if you're going to sleep at the house:
- Sleeping bag
- Pillow that can double for seating during sessions
- Mat/air mattress/blankets for cushioning
- If you have your own tent, bring it!
- Towel (I don't have a lot, being close to empty nest status and all)
- I have a couple of sleeping bags.
- For floor sleeping I have padding - two double air mattress and lots of comforters available.
- (Added 3/30/09) There is one queen bed available if you're willing to double up.
- (Added 3/30/09) Jane and I will be sleeping in the living room with our dogs.
- (Added 3/30/09) I will be pitching two 2-person tents. I have two cots available for tent camping.

FOOD! (added 3/30/09)
- I will provide the following:
- Coffee service
- Barbecue with briquets
- Refrigerator space
- Two coolers for beverages
- Serving platters and bowls
- Plastic and metal cutlery
- Paper plates and napkins
- Serving utensils
- Prep equipment for just about anything - pasta pot, assorted pots and pans, cutting boards, dual ovens - convection and standard, crock pot for anything that needs constant heat
- A minimum amount of snacks, breads, cheeses, juices. The food will be a collective effort
- We drink tap water at the house. Hope that's okay with you. Bring your own drinking water if you wish.
- (Added 3/30/09) Pot Luck Stylin at WoofCamp 2009.
- At the 2006 WoolfCamp we had a curry night thanks to Peter Montalbano. I don't see this happening this year, so here are some thoughts on what to bring:
- An entree, like a pasta dish or meatballs or something entree-esque.
- Bring something to barbecue. I'll have our Weber ready. You can BYOsalmon/steak/hot dog whatever. No pressure to share here as this is pricey individually.
- Green salads and vegie sides would be fabulous.
- A couple of loaves of bread would be divine. (added on 3/31: we'll be baking bread, right? Bake-off with e and gwendomama, wheeee! We'll start a couple of loaves on Friday, they'll be ready Saturday afternoon. elke) (what? what? e? not e! i'm not a baker! i'm buying what i bring, after i fly in friday aft and see what's what!)
- Cupcakes, brownies, cookies - need I say more?
- Some breakfast treats. Yogurt and granola would be great. Some juice by the gallon. Fruit, too.
- Want to start a pot-luck list? Go for it:
- Jane: Bringing a savory kugel (as per our delicious Ms. D), cheeses and crackers and homemade chutneys to go with, and who knows what else--I tend to overbuy.
- Elke: Bringing all bread ingredients, which will magically turn into two loaves of bread. Also, WINE.
- Chris and Kristie: bringing a tri tip that will feed a few more than just us for the BBQ, 2 bags of green salad (mix), some wine, asparagus and red bell peppers also for the grill. (will also bring our own blankets/pillows for night night time)
- Liz & Danny: bringing some homemade bread and maybe some deeeeelicious sardines
- Jenny: Bringing wine. I'm classay. I could also bring eggs & avocados from my mom's chickens & trees if that appeals to anyone.
- Jen Myers: bringing a vat of sangria, olive tapenade, crackers, oatmeal raisin cookies...so far.
- Always kid friendly.
- Dogs-who-obey-you-and-are-nice-to-others are most welcome.
(Added 3/30/09) Swap Stuff at WoolfCamp 2009!
- So, here's a fun idea: Bring something that's still functional but you don't want/need it anymore: Apparel, kitchen stuff, craft stuff, DVDs, CDs, office supplies, whatever. We'll put everyone's stuff in a big pile and we can grab anything that strikes our fancy. Like those "free boxes" I used to see in hipster San Francisco neighborhoods, the stuff's available to everyone. (I love that! I've been decluttering, I have all kinds of stuffs. elke) (I have a giant bag of 2T/3T kid clothes which I would be happy to bring if someone needs. I'm local so I can bring it by on Sunday. Jenny)
Program/agenda/contributions: what have you been doing/what can you share?
- e has been teaching art to kids full-time since the first woolfcamp, making spontaneous videos with her 1st gen Flipvideo and negotiating those venues, making her own pieces and knitting, of course. has connected with artist retreat John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC (where she will teach knitting to kids in june and loved winter dance week 2008) where she discovered a whole subculture of non-performance-based dancing (although she's been unable to participate yet as she seem to have broken herself.) if anybody has any art interests about these or anything else, please let me know and i can put something together? e., anything you want to put together and I'm in! I'm teaching myself loom knitting and will share that. deb.
- Shannon would be happy to talk about the process of light-speed guerilla book publishing, as evidenced by the two Can I Sit With You? story collections that she and Jennifer Byde Myers unleashed upon the world (Ms. Myers can talk, too, if she comes). Perhaps some other Woolfcampers/contributing authors would help lead the conversation? (cough Jen Monroe cough Gwendomama). (COUGH COUGH
you got me! By the way, these stories go better with bacongmama) - Dirty Details of da Democrats - will try to ply Stefania, Beth and Glennia with luscious baked goods to talk about MOMocrats and Glennia's big fun adventures at the convention. (suggested by Grace)
- Social Media Burnout - Are we Twitter'ed out? Do you want to stop being so Linked In? Do you not want to save Facebook? (save face - get it?) Let's talk about how we manage our S&M activities, whips notwithstanding. (suggested by Grace)
- Frugality - let us collate and blog our cheapass ways! The world needs to know how our stylish and savvy group copes with the recession. I know this has been hashed and rehased, but all contributions, no matter how seemingly minor, are great aids to recession coping and living. (suggested by Grace) (I just grabbed 'depression baking' a few months ago with a moment of clairvoyancy or clarity - gmama)(perhaps this could lead to a discussion about how buying bacon in bulk as a cooperative would be a great way to save money-gmama)
- Blogs for the Non-Blogger - If there are any at camp and if anyone wants to start one. Let us welcome the Great Unwashed to the blogosphere. (suggested by Grace)
- Writing Exercises, Just Like They Do in Community College Creative Writing Classes - Basically just some writing prompts (My favorite - "So much depends on...") and our responses to them. Stream of consciousness writing bonanza! With a slight bit of group therapy thrown in because we're in Santa Cruz! (suggested by Grace). (I can bring some from my writing class last year, too. deb) Jane says: I've taught creative writing at community colleges (and 4 years) and I'll bring the part of my brain that was once adept at writing prompts and leading discussions. Also some books on writing, 'cause they sometimes spur me on.
- iPhone Apps - I want to see yours and download the ones I like. It's that simple of a session. (suggested by Grace). (Me too! and G1 Android apps too! - Liz)
- anybody interested in learning how to bake no-knead bread, and using the interwebs as a cookbook? That would fit in with the frugality theme. Grace, if I can borrow your oven for an hour, we'd be all set. (suggested by Elke) (dude! is this the NYTimes no-knead version? http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/08/dining/081mrex.html Have been kneading to try this! Yeah, let's have a kitchen session! Brilliant idea, Elkedollin!) (yes it is the NYTimes version, and I'm lovin it. Awriiiiight - a'bakin we will go. elke) i do a sourdough version and could bring starter, only it's been flumpy lately; perhaps i can get it up (so to speak) in 6 weeks?--e Hey e - sure, bring your starter! We'll have a bake-off! that'll be even more fun. elke (you know i am in for a bake off! -gmama) -I have a great, very simple no-knead bread recipe I love. Problem? It makes a lot of bread (like 5 loaves). I will bring the book. deb.
- Is there anyone who can explain some of photoshop to me? i do not get layers, the books are confusing, and when it comes to this program, I am so lame. (requested by deb) (not mee, i use freebies, such as picasa almost exclusively these days. haven't updated my purchased software since last woolfcamp--e) (sarahdopp speaks photoshop. sarahdopp also likes deb.)
- hard times is Comin' and we need to get proactive with the RESPECTABLE networking for reals; respectable as, at least outside of the golden Valley, the big U-word advances. i, personally have two different, unrelated connections who are shit-outta-work, both so professional as to be virtually unemployable (kinda like me) and won't we look silly when our networks aren't up to scratch when we need them, or we're known far and wide but mostly as "Littlemee?" how can we exploit the inherent corporate structures of e.g.linkedin? who do we know? forget the 401ks for a minute, what do we need to remember for NOW, mortgages, options, healhcare, childcare...? what are your plans when the rug, whatever rug, gets pulled? jenijen and, for some reason, i'm thinking liz henry would be good on this kinda thing, no? or am i the only one here finding the topic germane?--e) (Happy to talk about it! I have some ideas! - Liz)
- I've been thinking about committing acts of journalism and thinking about making music, and maybe you have too and would like to share small progresses made and challenges met wrt either activity. I'll bring a guitar, a pen and a pad, and my ears. (George) (I hope you can play the Alphabutt song, George. - Liz)
- and of course, the obligatory, indispensible sarah dopp saturday night poetry slam! (anybody else timorous enough to do, say, storytelling?) (heeyyyy, who wrote this? okay, but whoever wrote this has to join me. i think that's the rule. -sarahdopp)
- I've been having a lot of fun with free-style Geek Labbing, where everyone helps each other fix blog stuff and answer bloggie qustions (we all have the answers, we just need to cross-pollinate a little more and get them to the right place). Would be happy to help organize, either as a session or just as an ongoing dealio in the main room. Liz and I did this at BlogHer DC and Boston and it was really wonderful. sarahdopp (I'm into it too Sarah! Anytime, ongoing, and/or I would be interested in messing around with command-line fu, unixy things, and php. I might like to show off php.net as a resource if anyone's interested Liz)
**(ADDED 4/2/09): Chris and Kristie will bring two extension cords, 5 power strips and at least one easel/whiteboard that can be used on Saturday. We are leaving after breakfast on Sunday, so will have to take everything back, but hoping that helps a bit.
Preliminary sign-up below. Add your fine self via Edit mode, button above't we look silly when our networks aren't up to scratch when we need them?
